Volunteers visited displacement camps in Al-Tadamon locality in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, including Camps 4 and 10, to assess the progress of education and identify the needs of children and teaching staff in displacement-affected areas.
The visit included meetings with education committees and school principals in the camps to discuss the progress of classes, as well as the main needs and shortages. The findings will be used to prepare recommendations for partners and donors, with the aim of supporting the continuity of education and strengthening schools’ capacity to continue operating.
Hamed Hussein, Programs Director at the Child Development Organization, told Mashaweer that “children and their families are showing strong determination to continue their education despite the harsh conditions imposed by displacement.”
He praised the efforts made by education committees and school administrations in the camps.
Hussein said the field visit aimed to assess the reality of education on the ground, strengthen positive practices and sustain the progress already achieved, while also identifying challenges requiring interventions from partners.
For his part, Salah Soreiba, an education activist in Blue Nile State, told Mashaweer that “continuing education in displacement areas is a priority for protecting children’s future, but it requires a suitable learning environment, educational materials and sustained support for teachers.”
He added that “addressing the needs identified during the visit will help reduce school dropout rates and ensure that children remain in education.”
