The Women’s Association in Al-Shagara neighborhood in Port Sudan organized an awareness lecture titled “Peaceful Coexistence and Rejecting Hate Speech,” as part of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of tolerance, acceptance of others, and strengthening community stability.
The main speaker at the lecture, Manal Saleh, called for promoting a culture of peaceful coexistence and reducing hate speech, contributing to building a safer and more stable society.
She highlighted “the importance of the community’s role in confronting rhetoric that deepens divisions and negatively affects relations among its different components.”
The lecture was part of a series of awareness-raising activities launched by the “Laha Walaki Wa Anti” Organization on peaceful coexistence and rejecting hate speech. The event witnessed active participation and engagement from attendees.
Women’s activist Fatima Al-Qadi told Mashaweer that “promoting a culture of coexistence and rejecting hate speech requires the continuation of community initiatives, particularly those that provide women and young people with opportunities to participate in dialogue and promote the values of tolerance and acceptance of diversity.”
Al-Qadi emphasized that “confronting hate speech is a shared responsibility,” calling for intensified awareness programs that contribute to strengthening social cohesion and reducing rhetoric that incites violence and division.
Meanwhile, Zainab Mahmoud, one of the organizers of the lecture, told Mashaweer that she appreciated the audience’s participation and engagement with the topic of the lecture. She also expressed her thanks to the program’s supporting organization and the administration of the Women’s Association in Al-Shagara neighborhood for their efforts in making the activity a success.
