The National Umma Party has reaffirmed its opposition to the war in Sudan, stressing that the conflict cannot be brought to an end through military means.
The party called for an inclusive political process to address the root causes of the crisis and return the country to the path of democratic civilian rule.
The position was expressed during an informational meeting for party leaders and members in White Nile State, addressed by the party’s Secretary-General, Al-Wathiq Al-Bareir, and Head of the Political Bureau, Mohamed Al-Mahdi Hassan, in the presence of several members of the General Secretariat, the Political Bureau, and party leaders in the state.
Al-Bareir said the party had made efforts before the outbreak of the war to contain tensions between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, including holding contacts with the leaderships of both sides. He noted that these efforts have continued since the fighting began.
He added that the party’s vision, together with that of its allies, is based on reaching a “credible, inclusive, and transparent” political process that addresses the root causes of the crisis, ends the division, and re-establishes the state on the foundations of peace, stability, and democratic civilian rule.
