The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud” welcomed the holding of the joint meeting between the Quadri-Partite and Penta-Partite groups concerning Sudan.
In a statement, the alliance described the meeting as “a step in the right direction,” given the importance of unifying and coordinating regional and international efforts to end the war and bring an end to the prolonged suffering of the Sudanese people.
The statement added: “We welcome the joint meeting’s focus on the priority of a humanitarian truce and cessation of hostilities, and call on the two sides of the war to respond immediately and without delay to this priority. This is the proper entry point toward a comprehensive ceasefire.”
The alliance reiterated its position that “there is no military solution to the Sudanese crisis and no alternative to an urgent and genuine political solution.”
It further stated: “There has been no legitimate authority in Sudan since the October 25 coup. Legitimacy is not acquired through the gun, nor created by imposing a fait accompli; rather, it derives from the free will of the Sudanese people and a transition to democratic civilian rule.”
The alliance also welcomed the recent statement by the U.S. Department of State, saying it contained “fundamental principles that reflect the aspirations of the Sudanese people to end the war, reject legitimizing the military status quo, and support an inclusive political process leading to peace and democracy.”
The alliance called for unified efforts to establish peace in Sudan, stressing that ending the war is the necessary starting point for establishing legitimate governance, protecting state institutions, preserving Sudan’s unity, and ensuring its sovereignty over all its territory and resources.
