Al-Burhan to Trump: We Are Committed to US-Brokered Peace Efforts

Khartoum – Mashawir

Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said he had sent a message to US President Donald Trump expressing Sudan’s commitment to peace efforts sponsored by the United States.

In a post on the social media platform X, al-Burhan said the Sudanese government was ready to work in good faith with all parties to achieve a just and lasting peace that preserves the country’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and the dignity of its people.

Washington had previously proposed a 90-day humanitarian truce in the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023. The proposal was presented by Massad Boulos, Trump’s senior adviser for Arab and African affairs. Al-Burhan rejected the proposal at the time and vowed to continue the war.

Last month, the US State Department said that neither the Sudanese Armed Forces, the RSF nor any of their leaders constituted a legitimate constitutional authority to govern Sudan.

Washington has accused the RSF of committing genocide and the Sudanese Armed Forces of committing war crimes. Both sides have previously denied committing violations.
