Health Ministry Announces Availability of Dengue Fever Treatment in Referral Hospitals in Khartoum

Reports – Mashawir

The Ministry of Health in Khartoum State revealed that 14,012 cases of dengue fever and four deaths have been recorded from January 2024 up to yesterday (Tuesday).

During the presentation of the epidemiological report across the state’s seven localities, the ministry stressed that 90% of vector control efforts depend on community roles within homes and residential neighborhoods.

The acting Director-General of Health in the state, Ahmed Al-Bashir Fadlallah, explained that “the war, along with the presence of abandoned houses and discarded tires, has contributed to increased mosquito breeding.”

He pointed out that 980 spraying operations and 10 aerial spraying sorties had been carried out, in addition to indoor fogging as part of the ongoing campaign to combat disease vectors.

The ministry also announced that treatment is being provided free of charge in a number of referral hospitals in the three capital cities (Omdurman, Khartoum, and Khartoum North).

Meanwhile, a report from the Surveillance and Information Department at the Federal Emergency Operations Center revealed 1,194 new cholera cases in 13 states across the country, with five being the most affected: North Darfur, South Kordofan, Central Darfur, North Kordofan, and Blue Nile. At the same time, 2,065 dengue fever cases were recorded in five other states, led by Khartoum, followed by Al-Jazeera, White Nile, Kassala, and Blue Nile, respectively.

The report also noted disparities in the availability of medicines and epidemic-related supplies at the state-level warehouses of the National Medical Supplies Fund, particularly cholera solutions and dengue fever treatments.
