A significant meeting was held today (Thursday) in the German capital, Berlin, to discuss avenues and opportunities for rebuilding Sudan after the war. The meeting brought together a delegation from the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Forces of the Revolution “Somoud,” participating in the Berlin Conference and led by Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, along with several major German institutions, including Lufthansa Consulting GmbH, Siemens Energy, K+S Group, Fichtner, HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH, Geoscan, and representatives from the Federation of German Industries.
During the meeting, the “Somoud” delegation presented a comprehensive overview of the scale of destruction affecting various sectors in Sudan since the outbreak of the war, highlighting the critical sectors that should be prioritized for rehabilitation, and outlining the major challenges facing the country.
In his remarks, Dr. Hamdok emphasized that Sudan cannot be rebuilt through aid and donations alone, but rather through strategic economic partnerships based on complementarity between Sudan’s core resources and those of its partners.
He praised the active role of Germany in supporting Sudan’s transition, its ongoing efforts to stop the war, and its successful hosting of the Berlin Conference, as well as its clear willingness to contribute to Sudan’s stability and reconstruction after the conflict.
Participants agreed to continue discussions and coordination in the coming period, focusing on how to plan effectively and proactively for reconstruction based on clear and practical priorities, in cooperation with Sudanese civil society working to achieve peace, ensure its sustainability, and rehabilitate state institutions and infrastructure damaged by the prolonged war.
