Precautionary Measures at Sudan’s Airports and Border Crossings to Prevent the Entry of the “Ebola” Virus

Port Sudan – Mashawir

Sudanese health authorities announced on Sunday the tightening of procedures at border crossings and airports to prevent the Ebola virus from entering the country following its emergence in several neighboring states.

In a press statement, the Quarantine Administration said that the Director of the National Quarantine Authority, Al-Fateh Rabie Abdullah, chaired an emergency meeting to discuss the implications of the virus outbreak. The meeting included the technical committee, directors of quarantine sectors in the states, and officials responsible for entry points at Port Sudan and Khartoum airports, as well as seaports and land crossings.

The meeting stressed the mandatory requirement for travelers arriving from countries where Ebola cases have been detected to complete health information forms. It also called for the distribution of health declaration forms inside aircraft before landing, in coordination with airlines and relevant authorities.

Authorities confirmed the readiness of health screening areas in Port Sudan and Khartoum to receive suspected cases, while efforts are underway to prepare isolation centers in coordination with the concerned states.

Ebola is considered one of the most dangerous hemorrhagic diseases. It spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, and the fatality rate ranges between 50 percent and 90 percent if treatment is not received.
