100,000 Displaced People Endure Harsh Conditions in Damazin

Damazin – Mashawir

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has sounded the alarm over the worsening humanitarian situation in Sudan’s Blue Nile Region, warning of a deepening crisis affecting more than 100,000 displaced people and returnees living in extremely harsh conditions near the regional capital, Damazin.

The organization said that declining humanitarian funding is further aggravating the crisis, while renewed fighting has strained the region’s already limited healthcare services due to the failure to significantly expand the humanitarian response.

MSF also warned that the approaching rainy season is expected to further restrict access to healthcare and increase the risk of seasonal disease outbreaks associated with the rainy months.

The organization noted that nearly 200 health facilities across the region are operating in dilapidated or damaged buildings, further undermining the delivery of essential medical services.
