Somoud Alliance Calls on the International Community to Intensify Support for a Humanitarian Truce in Sudan

Nairobi – Mashawir

The Humanitarian Aid Committee of the Somoud Alliance, the Civil Democratic Alliance of Sudan’s Revolutionary Forces, has welcomed the United Nations’ call for a humanitarian truce in Sudan, describing it as an urgent and necessary step to alleviate the worsening suffering of millions of civilians affected by the ongoing war and to facilitate the delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance to all those in need without obstruction.

The committee called on all parties to the conflict to respond immediately to the appeal and commit to a genuine humanitarian truce that fully respects the principles of international humanitarian law. Such a truce, it said, should ensure the protection of civilians, safeguard healthcare facilities, open humanitarian corridors, and guarantee the safety of humanitarian workers.

The committee stressed that, despite its importance, humanitarian assistance cannot substitute for addressing the root causes of the crisis. Therefore, the success of any humanitarian truce must be accompanied by serious and urgent support for a political process leading to a permanent ceasefire and an end to the war.

The committee also urged the regional and international community to intensify efforts to support the humanitarian truce, ensure the unhindered delivery of aid to all those in need, and simultaneously strengthen efforts to launch a credible political process. It emphasized that humanitarian and political solutions are inseparable and must advance together to achieve lasting peace in Sudan.
