The Tawila Emergency Room in North Darfur State has begun expanding its humanitarian operations by laying the groundwork for the establishment of the Kator Emergency Room. A field visit to the area included meetings with community leaders, youth representatives, and local stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening humanitarian response efforts and organizing volunteer work.
The meetings focused on the humanitarian situation in the Kator area and the need to establish a structured volunteer body to coordinate humanitarian activities and provide a rapid response to the needs of local residents amid the ongoing challenges facing the region.
Volunteer Sami Mahjoub told Mashaweer that participants welcomed the initiative and agreed to begin forming the Kator Emergency Room, while selecting a team of volunteers to oversee the necessary arrangements for its launch.
He added that the initiative would strengthen volunteer work, improve coordination of humanitarian interventions, and better serve the local community.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Al-Nayer, a member of the Tawila Emergency Room, told Mashaweer that the organization is ready to provide technical support and share its experience to ensure the successful establishment of the Kator Emergency Room.
He emphasized that creating the new emergency room would enhance cooperation and coordination among emergency response groups and improve the efficiency of humanitarian assistance across the region.
Similarly, Yahya Arbab, a resident of the Kator area, praised the initiative, describing it as “a positive step.” He told Mashaweer that delivering humanitarian services directly to people in their own communities is the best approach, rather than forcing them to flee to the outskirts of towns and villages, where displacement increases humanitarian pressures and social tensions.
