Independent weather observer Al-Mundhir Ahmed Al-Haj has warned that Khartoum State is expected to receive rainfall above seasonal averages in the coming period, with a heightened risk of flash floods in several areas. He urged residents to take the necessary precautionary measures to reduce potential risks.
The Sudan Meteorological Authority forecast heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 1, in parts of North, South, and West Kordofan states. Light to moderate rain is also expected in Khartoum, Al Jazirah, Red Sea, River Nile, Northern, Kassala, Al Qadarif, Sennar, White Nile, Blue Nile, as well as across the Darfur region.
Meanwhile, the Al Jazirah State Emergency Operations Center reported that rainfall up to Thursday had resulted in one death and four injuries, while affecting 170 families in 18 localities. The center also reported the complete destruction of six health facilities and partial damage to 16 others.
The warnings come after recent heavy, moderate, and light rainfall across Khartoum, Sennar, Al Jazirah, and White Nile states triggered flash floods and caused extensive property damage, including the collapse of hundreds of homes in Rabak, the capital of White Nile State.
