A joint initiative led by the Islamic Council for New Sudan and the Nuba Mountains Regional Council of Churches has announced the continuation of its efforts to promote peace and peaceful coexistence in South Kordofan State, following its successful efforts to secure the release of a number of detainees from Kudi Prison in the Kauda area, which is under the control of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North, led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
Omar Reda, head of the Islamic Council in the Nuba Mountains and one of the organizers of the initiative, said that “the detainees were released following mediation and coordination with the military leadership in the southern sector,” praising its response and cooperation in ensuring the success of the initiative.
Meanwhile, Musa Marzouk, a volunteer activist in South Kordofan State, told Mashaweer that “the initiative represents a positive step toward building trust and promoting peaceful coexistence among different components of society.”
He stressed “the importance of continuing such efforts to address humanitarian and social issues linked to the conflict.”
Marzouk added that “community-based initiatives can help create space for dialogue and peacebuilding.”
He called for expanding their scope to address other issues affecting people’s lives and for strengthening coordination among community and religious leaders and relevant stakeholders.
