The Sudanese Red Crescent Society in Gedaref State, in cooperation with the Netherlands Red Cross, organized a training workshop for water committees in the “Abu Al-Naja” displacement camps in Central Gedaref locality. The workshop was attended by 15 participants and was held as part of the Acute Crisis Response Project.
The workshop took place on September 6 and 7 and aimed to strengthen the capacity of water committees and enhance their readiness to address the needs of residents within the camps.
According to Salem Al-Amin, a member of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, who spoke to Mashaweer, training water committees helps strengthen their ability to monitor water-related issues in the camps and respond to problems that residents may face.
He added that “the participation of committee members in such training sessions helps develop their knowledge and skills, enabling them to play a more effective role in monitoring water services and coordinating needs within the camps.”
For his part, Gedaref-based volunteer activist Yahya Mohamed Omer told Mashaweer that “strengthening the capacity of water committees is an important step toward improving services provided to displaced people, as water is one of the basic needs directly linked to the health and stability of families.”
He added that “continued training and coordination between water committees and humanitarian organizations can contribute to addressing problems more quickly and responding to needs.”
He called for greater support for initiatives aimed at developing the capacities of local communities within the camps.
