The coalition \u201cUnited to Save Lives and Peace in Sudan\u201d has called on the warring parties to honor the \u201cJeddah Commitments,\u201d allow humanitarian pauses to enable the delivery of life-saving supplies to conflict areas, and remove obstacles to the safe movement of civilians away from danger.<\/p>\n

The group\u2014which includes Saudi Arabia, the United States, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations\u2014expressed deep concern over the ongoing deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan. This includes the growing number of people suffering from acute malnutrition and famine, as well as the multiple barriers hindering access to those in need, which delay or obstruct response efforts in critical areas.<\/p>\n

In a joint statement, the coalition stressed that civilians are paying the heaviest price for this war. It noted: \u201cAs the situation in Sudan worsens and humanitarian needs reach critical levels, the warring parties must take urgent measures to protect civilians, allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need, and facilitate its delivery, in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration on the Protection of Civilians in Sudan signed in May 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n

The coalition urged the conflicting parties to lift all bureaucratic obstacles blocking humanitarian operations, ensure that main supply routes remain open to convoys and humanitarian workers\u2014including through humanitarian pauses and other arrangements as needed\u2014extend the long-term use of the Adr\u00e9 crossing, and reach agreements on the predictable and sustainable use of major routes across frontlines leading to Darfur and Kordofan, as well as additional crossings from South Sudan.<\/p>\n

It further called for guaranteeing that humanitarian actors can safely deliver aid across Sudan to all civilians in need, without fear of retaliation when assistance is provided in areas under the control of other parties. It also stressed the need to ensure civilians\u2019 safe passage to access aid and services, and to allow for a sustainable UN humanitarian presence throughout the country, especially in areas with urgent needs, such as Darfur and Kordofan.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the coalition called for restoring telecommunications services nationwide and protecting vital civilian infrastructure, particularly energy, water, and health facilities.<\/p>\n

It highlighted that in some areas\u2014especially North Darfur and Kordofan\u2014urgent measures to calm the situation are needed to enable humanitarian actors to deliver assistance.<\/p>\n
