A World Bank mission has arrived in the city of Port Sudan to follow up on its ongoing projects, marking the first such visit after years of suspended official relations.<\/h4>\n

The Ministry of Finance announced in a statement the arrival of the first high-level official mission from the World Bank to Sudan since relations were suspended in 2021.<\/h4>\n

The World Bank had suspended grants intended for budget support, improving electricity generation, transmission and distribution, and enhancing agricultural irrigation\u2014amounting to more than US$1.8 billion\u2014following the military coup of October 25, 2021.<\/h4>\n

The World Bank delegation included its Regional Director for Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, Mariam Salem; the Country Director, Yuen-Shiro Ishihara; along with economic expert Mohamed Osman.<\/h4>\n

Sudanese Minister of Finance Jibril Ibrahim stated during the meeting that the government’s priorities at this stage are reconstruction, and the provision of health care, education, drinking water, and electricity services, in addition to priorities for the agricultural sector and rehabilitation of infrastructure in Khartoum.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
