The Chadian army command on Saturday condemned an attack carried out on Friday by Sudan\u2019s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a border town, which resulted in the killing of two Chadian soldiers and the injury of a third. The army described the incident as an \u201cunjustified act of aggression\u201d against Chad.
\nA drone belonging to the RSF, which has been engaged in a war with the Sudanese army since April 2023, carried out the attack on the Chadian town of Tina.
\nA senior army officer told Agence France-Presse, speaking on condition of anonymity: \u201cSince the start of the Sudanese war, this is the first time that the Chadian army has been affected by the loss of two soldiers.\u201d
\nThe General Staff described the attack as \u201cdeliberate and intentional, in violation of international law,\u201d and warned the parties to the Sudanese conflict against any infringement of Chad\u2019s sovereignty.
\nIn a statement, the Chadian army affirmed that it reserves \u201cthe right to respond by all legal means and the right to legitimate self-defense in the event of any new violation of national territory, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.\u201d
\nThe RSF currently controls most of North and West Darfur, with the exception of some areas held by neutral tribal groups.
\nLast Wednesday, the RSF announced that it had taken control of the towns of Abu Qamra and Um Buru in northern Darfur, both located along the axis leading to the Chadian town of Tina.
\nAt the end of last October, the RSF seized control of El Fasher, the last stronghold of the Sudanese army in the Darfur region, after besieging it for more than 18 months, amid evidence of mass killings, abductions, and rape.
\nThe war in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of millions, and has caused what the United Nations has described as the world\u2019s worst humanitarian crisis.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
