The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Darfur region revealed today (Thursday) a widespread outbreak of measles across several states in the region. This comes amid a sharp deterioration in health and humanitarian conditions within displacement camps, alongside a shortage of medical services and food.<\/h4>\n

On 06 January, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched a measles vaccination campaign in South Darfur state, with plans to expand later to vaccinate 6 million children across the Darfur states.<\/h4>\n

Adam Regal, the spokesperson for the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, stated that “measles infection rates have seen a significant increase, with the number of cases in Central Darfur exceeding 2,500.”<\/h4>\n

He explained that South Darfur state has recorded more than 2,000 cases, in addition to outbreaks in North, East, and West Darfur. He noted that the process of tracking and counting cases is still ongoing in these states.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
