Human Rights Watch said that \u201cforces affiliated with the Sudanese army have carried out \u2018arbitrary detention of civilians, torture, and other forms of ill-treatment\u2019 in areas under their control, and have \u2018denied them their rights to due process.\u2019\u201d<\/h4>\n

It added that \u201cthe army has launched a campaign of intimidation and retaliation against individuals it describes as collaborators, based on their ethnic identity, humanitarian work, political affiliation, or for having lived under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.\u201d<\/h4>\n

The organization continued: \u201cAuthorities should take steps to end arbitrary detention, torture, and ill-treatment, and provide compensation to detainees and their families.\u201d<\/h4>\n

It further stated: \u201cInternational and regional actors should clearly signal to the military leadership that they will be held accountable.\u201d<\/h4>\n

Human Rights Watch also noted that the Sudanese Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office, in its response, said: \u201cWe reject the allegations regarding arbitrary arrests and deaths in detention, except for one case currently undergoing criminal proceedings.\u201d<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
