The Sudanese Journalists\u2019 Syndicate has announced that it has obtained full membership in the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), following the unanimous approval of its application by the federation\u2019s Executive Committee, according to the announcement circulating regarding the decision.<\/h4>\n

The federation\u2019s General Secretary, Anthony Bellanger, confirmed in an official letter to the syndicate that the membership application had been approved unanimously by all members of the Executive Committee.<\/h4>\n

The Head of the Sudanese Journalists\u2019 Syndicate, Abdel Moneim Abu Idris, described the move as international recognition of the resilience of Sudanese journalists and their continued commitment to their professional mission amid war and displacement. He highlighted the importance of amplifying civilians\u2019 voices and drawing attention to the state of journalism in the country.<\/h4>\n

The Sudanese Journalists\u2019 Syndicate was established in its current form following elections held on 27 August 2022, ending a 33-year hiatus in trade union elections. It works to defend journalists\u2019 professional rights, promote professional independence and freedom of expression, and document violations against workers in the media sector.<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

Headquartered in Brussels, the International Federation of Journalists is the world\u2019s largest global trade union organisation representing journalists. It was founded in Paris in 1926, relaunched in 1946, and established in its current form in 1952.<\/h4>\n

<\/h4>\n

The federation represents approximately 600,000 journalists and media professionals through 187 unions and associations in more than 140 countries. Its work focuses on defending press freedom and labour and professional rights, improving working conditions, and promoting occupational safety and equality within media organisations.<\/h4>\n

The IFJ issues the International Press Card (IPC), which was launched in 1927 and is available to members of national unions and associations affiliated with the federation. The card provides internationally recognised professional identification and enables holders to benefit from the federation\u2019s solidarity and support network while travelling and covering news, including in conflict zones.<\/h4>\n
