International Pressure on Warring Parties in Sudan to Approve Humanitarian Truce in El Fasher

Mashawir – Reports

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, revealed that significant pressure is being exerted on both parties to the conflict in Sudan to agree to a humanitarian truce in the city of El Fasher, which is experiencing rapidly deteriorating conditions.

Fletcher disclosed that contacts were made this week with senior officials from both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to push for a humanitarian ceasefire that would allow life-saving aid to reach thousands of people in El Fasher.

UN reports indicate that more than 400,000 people have been displaced from El Fasher since last April due to escalating fighting, insecurity, and clashes. Additionally, over 30,000 people have fled from areas in North and West Kordofan as a result of military operations and worsening security conditions.

The UN warned that the growing influx of displaced people into northern Sudan will further strain the already limited resources, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The situation is expected to worsen with imminent floods and heavy rains, which will pose additional obstacles to aid delivery.
