Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières – MSF) has expressed growing concern over threats made by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to launch a full-scale attack on the city of El Fasher, home to thousands of civilians, warning that such an offensive could lead to further bloodshed.
The organization warned of “mass atrocities” and “ethnically-motivated violence” in Darfur as battles intensify in the war-torn region.
MSF noted that civilians in El Fasher have continued to suffer since the outbreak of fighting in the city in May 2024, bearing the heaviest toll of the conflict.
According to the organization, several witnesses reported that RSF members spoke of intentions to “cleanse El Fasher” of its non-Arab population. MSF called on all parties to the conflict to spare civilians the horrors of war and to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law.
The organization urged the RSF and its allies to immediately halt ethnic violence against non-Arab communities, lift the siege on El Fasher, and ensure the establishment of safe corridors for civilians fleeing the violence.
