IGAD: Negotiations Are the Best Path to Ending the Catastrophic Situation in Sudan

The Special Envoy of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to Sudan, Lawrence Korbandi, stressed that negotiations are the most effective way to end the catastrophic situation caused by the war in Sudan.

He explained that the organization is conducting intensive and continuous communications with regional, international, and Sudanese parties, as well as with the Quartet Group, in an effort to reach a truce and a ceasefire.

The African envoy pointed to arrangements underway by IGAD to resume the Sudanese political dialogue, noting that meetings are ongoing with political forces and Sudanese stakeholders to ensure inclusive participation.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been witnessing an ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.
