Germany’s Minister for Development, Reem Alabali-Radovan, called for intensified international efforts to end the conflict in Sudan, describing it as “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis” and warning that it must not be overlooked or neglected.
In statements to the German media group Funke, Radovan said, “The reports and images reaching us are extremely alarming and frightening.”
She praised neighboring countries for supporting millions of people who have fled Sudan since the outbreak of fighting, but stressed that humanitarian aid alone is not sufficient.
According to the German News Agency, she added: “We urgently need a political solution, starting with a stable ceasefire… This will not happen on its own in this horrific civil war; it requires immediate and greater support from the international community.”
She warned that the conflict must not be forgotten.
Sudan has been at war since April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The United Nations has described the conflict as the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, with around 12 million people displaced and half of the population facing the risk of hunger.
