Essential commodities flowed into the city of Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan State, on Friday, resulting in an immediate and significant drop in prices across local markets.
This breakthrough follows the Sudanese Army’s announcement on January 26 that it had ended the siege of the city. Forces successfully linked Dilling from the east to North Kordofan State after intense battles against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its ally, the SPLM-N Al-Hilu faction.
More than ten trucks carrying sugar, flour, corn, onions, and fuel reached the city from North Kordofan. This represents the first convoy of this size to reach Dilling in over two years.
The markets saw a surge in the supply of onions, which had been completely unavailable for the past six months. Additionally, prices for staples plummeted: Dropped to approximately 40,000 SDG per bag, down from a previous high of 400,000 SDG. Sugar: The price per kilogram fell to roughly 3.4 SDG, compared to its previous price of 25,000 SDG.
