Health discusses plan for Sudan Malaria-Free Initiative

Khartoum - Mashaweer

The Sudanese Ministry of Health discussed the technical and administrative arrangements for implementing the Prime Minister’s initiative to make Sudan free of malaria.

A ministerial meeting chaired by Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim affirmed the necessity of having experts prepare plans to enhance scientific and practical interventions to reach the goal.

The ministry emphasized the utilization of state resources and the periodic review of the malaria program in the country as one of the requirements for the Global Fund grant.

Malaria fever is witnessing a terrifying surge in cases across the country’s states, led by the capital, Khartoum, after becoming the greatest threat to the lives of Sudanese people. This comes at a time when the crumbling health infrastructure is unable to deal with the accelerating wave of epidemics and malaria infections, which have become a widespread epidemic threat.

Sudan records more than 3 million malaria infections annually with a high mortality rate. Furthermore, the war has exacerbated the health situation in the country, increasing the spread of the disease and the challenges of combating it.
