United Nations: Escalating violence in Kordofan and Darfur exacerbates human losses

New York - Mashaweer

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that drone strikes and escalating violence in the Kordofan region have led to an increase in civilian casualties, damage to infrastructure, and a deepening of humanitarian needs.

It pointed to the obstruction of aid access, increasing displacement, and the straining of already fragile services.

The office added that the security situation in the Darfur region continues to deteriorate with intensifying violence resulting in deaths and injuries among civilians, especially along the border strip between Sudan and Chad, spreading fear and causing new waves of displacement.

The office noted that the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, launched in February, has received only slightly more than 15 percent of the required funding, which severely limits the expansion of life-saving assistance.
