Iran’s war ignites commodity prices in Sudan and deepens the economic crisis

Port Sudan - Mashaweer

Consumer goods prices in Sudan have witnessed a significant increase as a result of the acute fuel crisis, the rise in fuel prices, and the shortage of quantities arriving in the country.

Markets in several Sudanese states and cities are suffering from a state of recession due to citizens refraining from purchasing as a result of high prices and the lack of financial savings.

Economists have called for the necessity of establishing a financial portfolio and forming a new path and approach for managing the economy.

Sudanese Minister of Finance Gibril Ibrahim said that this accelerating deterioration in the value of the local currency and the rise in inflation rates are linked to the repercussions of the Iranian war.

The minister attributed this to the state of disruption that has affected global supply chains and the rise in shipping and insurance costs.
