United Nations Resumes Operations in Khartoum After Three Years of War

Khartoum – Mashawir

The United Nations announced on Thursday that it has officially resumed operations from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

The Humanitarian Coordinator, Denise Brown, stated that “this important step enables UN agencies and organizations to access all areas that were previously difficult to reach.”

She added, during a press conference held at the main headquarters in central Khartoum, that “the United Nations continues to support the state and individuals in order to end the war and rebuild Sudan.”

Following the outbreak of war in the country between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs relocated to the city of Port Sudan in eastern Sudan, which had been used by army leaders as a temporary capital.
