Journalists and Rights Activists Explore Building a Professional Alliance to Document Violations in Sudan’s War

Kampala – Mashawir

Journalists and representatives from 16 media institutions and human rights organizations discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination to build a professional alliance that integrates journalistic work with human rights efforts. The meeting was held in the Nsambya area of the Ugandan capital, Kampala, amid escalating violations linked to the conflict in Sudan.

Participants in the session—organized by the organization “Advocacy for Darfur Victims”—emphasized the necessity of building a unified, professional media discourse based on accuracy and credibility, in order to convey the reality of humanitarian suffering more effectively to the international public and support advocacy efforts aimed at achieving justice.

They noted that the role of the media has gone beyond merely reporting news, becoming a strategic tool for documenting crimes and defending rights through the issuance of regular joint statements that ensure a unified field narrative and high credibility, especially in the face of security challenges targeting journalists and the difficulty of accessing information due to the lack of adequate protection.

The session also presented practical proposals to develop investigative journalism tools to uncover violations, combat impunity, and address the urgent need for evidence-based reports to support international accountability efforts.
