The Emergency Room in the town of Labdo, East Darfur State, has reported the death of 59 people and hundreds of infections due to a measles outbreak that has been spreading widely in the town in recent days.
In a statement, the Emergency Room said that “measles has spread in an alarming manner following a comprehensive field survey that covered all neighborhoods in the area.”
It added that “the survey results revealed a significant concentration of cases within households, amid a severe and near-total shortage of medicines at the health center and pharmacies, which has greatly worsened the health situation.”
The Emergency Room confirmed that “the death toll has reached 59, with 350 confirmed cases and 702 suspected cases recorded,” noting that there are additional cases that have not yet been counted.
It warned that the number of cases continues to rise daily, raising concerns of an imminent health disaster if urgent intervention is not taken.
