The International Quad on Sudan held meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday to discuss ways to advance joint efforts to end the war in Sudan, reaffirming that there is no military solution to the conflict.
Masad Boulos, Senior Adviser to US President Donald Trump for Arab and African Affairs, said the Quad, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, had agreed that “there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan.”
Boulos added that the group had also agreed on the need to use the communication channels, tools and influence available to its members, both collectively and individually, to engage with the warring Sudanese parties and other relevant actors, with the aim of ending the fighting through negotiations.
He explained that these efforts should complement an inclusive, Sudanese-led political dialogue that would pave the way for a transition to civilian rule.
Boulos noted that the Quad’s meetings also addressed support for the efforts of the international Quintet mechanism to facilitate an inclusive Sudanese dialogue.
In the same context, Boulos announced that two joint meetings involving members of the Quad and Quintet had been held in cooperation with international and regional partners on the sidelines of the sixth consultative meeting on strengthening coordination among peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan.
