The United States and its partners are seeking to unify peace efforts in Sudan at a time when both parties to the war continue to place their hopes in military gains on the battlefield, amid warnings that the conflict could spread across the region.
The sixth consultative meeting on Sudan, hosted in Geneva on 21 October, provided a broader picture of the scale of diplomatic mobilisation surrounding the crisis. The meeting brought together members of the Quad and Quintet groups, major powers, neighbouring countries and sponsors of various peace initiatives.
Masad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, summed up Washington’s message in a post on his account on the social media platform X following the meeting.
“Sudan’s war must end, and there is no military solution to the conflict,” he said, warning that its continuation would multiply the devastating toll on civilians and threaten to spread further instability across the region.
