RSF Shelling Worsens Humanitarian Crisis at Abu Shouk Camp in El Fasher

Ongoing artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has further complicated the security and humanitarian situation at Abu Shouk camp, compounding the already dire health conditions faced by most of its residents.
According to relief sources, 14 people were killed when RSF forces shelled a market in the Abu Shouk displacement camp, which is suffering from famine in the Darfur region of western Sudan.
Complex Conditions
In a statement, the Abu Shouk Emergency Room said the shelling targeted “Nivasha Market and other parts of the camp, including mosques and homes near public facilities,” noting the difficulty of accounting for “all casualties and the wounded due to the poor security situation.”
The emergency room noted that continued RSF shelling has further worsened the security and humanitarian conditions in the camp, in addition to the already difficult health circumstances.
It reported that, over the past four days, more than 18 people were killed and 30 others sustained serious injuries.
Lack of Healthcare
The statement added that health center departments and private clinics have ceased functioning due to a lack of medicine. Food supplies have also run out, forcing residents to survive on “flour water.”
Food Crisis
Several charitable community kitchens providing meals have stopped operating due to the suspension of aid and grants.
Currently, the camp has only one functioning kitchen, recently established with support from the “MOVS” organization, but it is unable to meet the needs of the camp’s large displaced population.
The emergency room warned that shelling, hunger, thirst, and disease are claiming lives daily.
It also reported that over 300 people with special needs and elderly individuals remain trapped inside Abu Shouk camp, unable to leave due to road dangers and financial constraints. The statement urged urgent aid for the camp’s children and called for the opening of safe corridors.
