Warnings of Flash Floods Threatening Sudanese Cities

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The Early Warning Unit of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, in cooperation with the Regional Early Warning Project, has issued an advisory warning of possible flash floods between July 25 and 27.

Areas expected to face moderate-risk flooding include Zandi localities in Central Darfur, Kebkabiya in North Darfur, El Geneina in West Darfur, as well as the Gash area and the localities of Hamashkoreib and Atbara River in Kassala State, eastern Sudan, in addition to the southeastern border of River Nile State to the north.

Data indicates a high probability of severe flooding in northern Hamashkoreib, parts of the Gash River, and the northern areas of Atbara River locality, along the eastern border of River Nile State.

The Early Warning Unit anticipates that about 30 areas across the country may be affected, putting around 22,028 people at risk.

Residents are urged to avoid low-lying areas and flood paths and to follow official updates on the situation. The unit also recommends evacuating vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, to safer areas and disseminating warnings among local communities.
