“Samood” Coalition: Priority Is to End the War, Not Form Governments That Deepen Sudan’s Crisis

Follow-ups – Mashawir

The Civil Democratic Forces Coalition (Samood), led by former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, has warned of the grave danger posed by the ongoing war in Sudan, cautioning that the country is on the brink of an existential crisis—its most severe in history—due to the presence of two rival authorities dividing its territory.

In a statement, the coalition reaffirmed its rejection of the war, arguing that it will tear the country apart and threaten both national and regional stability, as well as international peace.

The coalition reiterated its non-recognition of any authority in Sudan since the October 25, 2021 coup, stating that “no authority currently holds legitimacy in the country.” It emphasized that “the priority now is to stop the war and address the humanitarian crisis, not to form new governments that would further complicate Sudan’s situation.”

The coalition blamed the “Islamic Movement regime” for exacerbating the crisis, accusing it of denying Sudan’s diversity, dividing the country, committing genocide in Darfur, and planting the seeds of fragmentation that have now manifested in the ongoing war.

Samood called for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian aid corridors, and the protection of civilians. It stressed that regional and international efforts must be tied to a comprehensive political process that addresses the root causes of the conflict.

The statement also urged anti-war civil and democratic forces to intensify their efforts and organize the broadest possible national front for peace, unity, and democracy. It further called on the Sudanese people to pressure the warring parties to end the conflict while encouraging a supportive regional and international stance for Sudan’s stability.
