The food shortage crisis in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, has seen a partial easing following the arrival of food supplies in the city’s markets over the past few days.
For several months, the city has been experiencing a severe shortage of basic food commodities and soaring prices due to a blockade imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM–N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, who have closed the main highway linking the city with North Kordofan State.
Local volunteers reported that some goods and essential food supplies have reached the city’s markets after nearly five months of scarcity and disrupted deliveries caused by road closures.
However, they noted that although the arrival of goods has slightly reduced the prices of some vital commodities, many families are still unable to afford essential items due to the loss of most of their income sources.
