Death Toll from Floods and Heavy Rains Rises in Sudan

Official statistics revealed a rise in the death toll caused by floods and heavy rains that have swept across several Sudanese states.

A total of 51 people have lost their lives, most of them from River Nile State in the north of the country, while 31 others have been injured.

Major General Qureshi Hussein Abdel Qader, Assistant Director-General of Civil Defense Emergency Forces, reported that according to the latest statistics today, 951 houses have completely collapsed across all states, while about 4,152 houses were partially destroyed.

He noted that these figures are likely to increase, adding that around 20 government facilities were completely damaged, while 114 commercial facilities and warehouses were also affected.

He pointed out that 9,900 acres of farmland have been damaged by floods and torrential rains in the affected states.

He further revealed that seven states are the hardest hit: River Nile, Northern, Khartoum, Blue Nile, White Nile, Sennar, and Gezira.
