WHO: Famine Confirmed in Parts of Sudan

Reports – Mashawir

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that Sudan is facing afood crisis and a confirmed famine in parts of the country.

In a post on the “X” platform, Ghebreyesus explained that the situation is particularly worsening in North Darfur, where the city of El Fasher has been under siege for more than 500 days.

He called for the immediate, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to El Fasher to meet growing health needs and save lives.

This comes as battles continue in El Fasher between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with the Sudanese Doctors’ Network announcing the killing of 18 civilians and the injury of more than 100 others as a result of RSF artillery shelling.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan also stated, in a post on “X”, that Sudan is facing the world’s largest food crisis.
