Escalating Fighting Triggers New Waves of Displacement in Kordofan

Reports – Mashawir

Ongoing military operations in Sudan’s Kordofan region have triggered a new wave of displacement from areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), such as Kazgeil, Hamadi, En Nahud, and Dubeibat, toward El-Obeid and other towns in South Kordofan.

The displaced face dire humanitarian conditions as the conflict, now in its second year, has deepened shortages of food and medicine and left essential services absent.

In February, the Sudanese army broke the siege of El-Obeid through a major military operation launched from Kosti in White Nile State, under the name Muttaharrik Al-Sayyad (“Hunter Mobile Force”).

Hundreds of displaced Sudanese now face the rainy season under harsh conditions, with families living in makeshift shelters such as straw huts (qatati) and temporary tents that cannot withstand extreme weather and are repeatedly damaged during the rains. Daily needs for food, medicine, and heating remain critical.
