Volunteers: Displacement Waves Exceed the Capacity of Emergency Rooms in Damazin

Damazin – Mashaweer

The escalation of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Blue Nile region has displaced more than 200,000 people from the towns of Kurmuk and Geissan and other areas, amid growing concerns over the worsening humanitarian and health conditions of displaced people.

Displaced families are facing difficult conditions in areas receiving them, amid heavy rainfall, shortages of food and shelter materials, as well as challenges in delivering humanitarian assistance to those affected.

Mohamed Abdel Karim, a member of the Blue Nile Emergency Room, told Mashaweer that “the scale of displacement exceeds the capacity of host communities and emergency rooms to respond.”

He pointed to an urgent need for food, drinking water, shelter materials, and medicines, particularly as rainfall continues and health conditions deteriorate.

He added that “the expanding scale of displacement requires urgent intervention by humanitarian organizations and efforts to open safe corridors to facilitate the delivery of aid to displaced people and affected areas.”

For his part, Hassan Abdel Rahim, an activist working at displacement shelters, told Mashaweer that “the increasing number of displaced people is placing enormous pressure on shelters, particularly given the limited availability of accommodation, food, and basic services.”

Abdel Rahim warned of worsening health risks among displaced people, particularly children, women, and older people, amid difficult shelter conditions and ongoing rainfall.

He called for urgent humanitarian intervention to provide essential needs, strengthen healthcare services, and improve water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
