The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed the joint statement issued by the Quartet meeting — comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States — regarding the conflict in Sudan.

Jasem Al-Budaiwi, GCC Secretary-General, praised the principles outlined in the statement, which reaffirmed respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; called for an immediate ceasefire; emphasized the need for safe and unhindered humanitarian access across Sudan; and stressed the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law. The statement also underscored the importance of transitioning to a comprehensive and transparent political process leading to the formation of a broadly legitimate civilian government that reflects the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security and stability.

Al-Budaiwi commended the tireless efforts of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and the United States in addressing the Sudan crisis, and confirmed the GCC’s full support for these regional and international initiatives. He further expressed the Council’s readiness to cooperate with partners to enhance prospects for lasting peace, alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, and safeguard the stability and institutions of the Sudanese state.

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and the U.S. had earlier issued a joint statement following intensive consultations initiated by Washington, reaffirming their shared commitment to ending the conflict in Sudan.

The ministers stressed that the ongoing war has created “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis” and poses a direct threat to regional peace and security. They underlined that a military solution to the crisis is “unviable” and warned that the continuation of the current situation is causing “unacceptable suffering” while exposing the region to growing risks.
