Trump’s Adviser: Sudan’s Warring Parties Moving Closer to Direct Talks

Agencies – Mashawir

U.S. President’s adviser for African affairs, Mossad Bolos, announced that the warring parties in Sudan are moving closer to holding direct talks aimed at ending one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Speaking to reporters in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, Bolos explained that Washington is holding discussions with the Sudanese army and its rival, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to reach a set of general principles for negotiations.

He added: “The current situation shows that neither side has the upper hand, and therefore both are now ready to negotiate. We hope to be able to announce something soon,” according to Bloomberg.

The U.S. envoy expressed cautious optimism that Sudan’s warring parties will sit at the negotiating table soon, although many previous attempts have failed to yield results.

He noted that under the current circumstances, neither side enjoys a military advantage—something that was not the case three months ago—which is why both are now prepared to engage in talks.
