Sudanese Doctors: Rising Deaths Among Children and Women in El-Fasher

Agencies – Mashawir

The Sudanese Doctors’ Network has reported a rise in deaths among children and women in El-Fasher due to severe malnutrition caused by the city’s siege. The network recorded 23 deaths in September alone, including five pregnant women.

In a statement, the network said: “El-Fasher is facing a fully-fledged humanitarian catastrophe. What is happening is not merely a humanitarian crisis, but a systematic crime that deprives civilians of their right to life, using starvation as a weapon of war—an act that squarely falls under the definition of war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law.”

The statement held the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) directly responsible for the disaster, citing their continued siege of the city for over a year and their obstruction of humanitarian aid. It also accused the international community and the United Nations of being complicit through their silence and failure to intervene despite the scale of the tragedy being evident.

The network warned that the continuation of this situation amounts to a “silent genocide” against tens of thousands of women and children in El-Fasher. It stressed that each day of delay in lifting the siege and allowing the entry of food and medicine amounts to a collective death sentence for the city’s distressed population.
