The worsening economic crisis in El Fasher doubles residents’ suffering

Mashawir – Reports

The escalation of fighting and the siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El Fasher since May 2024 have led to a deepening economic crisis, further exacerbating citizens’ hardships.

Basic commodities have witnessed unprecedented price hikes: a kilogram of sugar now costs 120,000 Sudanese pounds (about 34 USD), a kilogram of rice 400,000 pounds (about 114 USD), and a kilogram of meat 120,000 pounds (about 34 USD).

These exorbitant prices come amid severe shortages, as food supplies enter El Fasher through extremely dangerous routes, driving up costs and reducing the quantities available for distribution.

As a result of these conditions, daily work has come to a halt, and most families have already exhausted their financial savings.
