The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that more than 3,000 people have died and 120,000 have been infected with cholera in Sudan.
OCHA stated on its platform X (formerly Twitter) that Sudan’s health system is struggling to cope with the cholera outbreak after 75% of health facilities were destroyed as a result of the ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The UN office further explained that a lack of sustainable funding threatens to undermine ongoing efforts to contain and respond to the outbreak.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has displaced millions of Sudanese and led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
