The first Egyptian overland aid convoy to Sudan departed from Cairo, carrying approximately 70 tons of food and medical supplies. It is expected to arrive in Sudanese territory on New Year’s Eve.
The convoy, prepared by the Egyptian Red Crescent, includes food baskets, medicines, and shelter supplies such as mattresses, blankets, winter covers, and other relief items. These materials were selected based on priority needs coordinated with the Sudanese Red Crescent.
During the launch of the convoy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Maya Morsi, confirmed that this is the first overland convoy to travel a distance of nearly 2,000 kilometers to reach Sudan. It is expected to arrive on New Year’s Eve, accompanied by a delegation of Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers.
Morsi noted that the convoy represents a message of Egyptian support to the Sudanese people as they strive to overcome the critical phase they are currently experiencing. She added that this is not the first, nor will it be the last, form of support for Sudan, and that assistance will continue until the current crisis is overcome.
