International agencies and organizations have warned about the severe impact of the war on the Sudanese people after 1,000 days since it began. They called for the opening of safe humanitarian corridors and for increased humanitarian assistance to Sudan.
In a press statement, the United Nations said the people of Sudan are enduring “unimaginable suffering” after 1,000 days of conflict.
The UN reported that the war has displaced 12 million Sudanese, while 21 million people are facing hunger.
It added that the World Food Programme (WFP) continues its life-saving work across the country, but stressed that there is an urgent need for funding to reach those most at risk.
In a post on the social media platform X, the WFP said that the day marks 1,000 days since the outbreak of war in Sudan, highlighting the importance of safe humanitarian corridors and the need to secure resources for the coming months.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that 1,000 days of fear, loss, and forced displacement for families is a reality the world cannot ignore.
Meanwhile, the Regional Director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder, said that Sudanese children have suffered through 1,000 days of pain.
