International Consultations to Address Famine in Sudan

London - Mashaweer

The British Foreign Office has called for consultations at the UN Security Council to address the outbreak of famine in North Darfur.

In a post on the platform (X), the British Foreign Office stated: “The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has confirmed that famine has spread to the towns of Ambara and Karnoi in North Darfur.”

It reported that the United Kingdom, alongside Bahrain and Denmark, has called for Security Council consultations to address this ongoing crisis.

The statement added: “Both warring parties must allow humanitarian aid to reach the people of Sudan.”

The IPC, a UN-backed global monitor for measuring hunger crises, explained that malnutrition levels in Ambara and Karnoi have surpassed the famine threshold.
