The Civil Democratic Alliance for Revolutionary Forces “Somoud”, led by Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, met with the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, to discuss ways to advance peace efforts in Sudan. The meeting took place today, Wednesday, at the organization’s headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The meeting featured a discussion described as “frank and transparent” regarding the developments of the ongoing war in Sudan. It focused on the role expected of IGAD in facilitating a comprehensive and sustainable peace process, particularly through its participation in the Quintet Mechanism and its coordination with the Quartet Initiative.
The Executive Secretary of IGAD reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to doubling its efforts to stop the fighting and “silence the guns” in Sudan.
He emphasized the importance of pushing for political solutions as the only viable option to end the conflict. He further echoed “Somoud’s” position that there is no military solution to the Sudanese crisis, asserting that the best path forward is a peaceful negotiation process that addresses the root causes of the crisis and establishes lasting peace and comprehensive stability in the country.
